The alternative method is the one they've used for more than a century, prior to the 1990s, in large part. It's called plain drilling, and it usually went to relatively shallow, vertical depths. But some genius showed the operators that fracking lowers the COST of drilling and makes each drill pad more productive. Oh, oh. Someone needs to remind or ask the energy industry that trillions of cubic feet were "flared off" from oil wells for decades because the resource outfit didn't know what (that is, didn't have the equipment) to do with it, or else the natural gas price was so piddling low that collecting and transporting same was "uneconomic." We could sure use that gas now. It's cold! But now we have thousands of miles of pipelines, "midstream" collection and processing plants, liquefied natural gas on ships, and tanks full of the stuff in Cushing, Oklahoma, big and numerous enough to hold the Red Sea. And so more tanks are being sought. Bigger is always better; no?

Sorry, Ron. The felons RUN the elections. They're called public officials, and most of them come from the wrong side of the political fence, if you're even a touch liberal. Which I think you are.

The New York Times is published where LOTS of Jewish folks live. With that constituency (and not a little money flowing from the New York region to Tel Aviv each year), it's not surprising if the NYT would push a little for a blow against Iran. Besides, the US would be dragged in immediately, so Israel's downside is limited. They hope.

I doubt that limiting public comment in front of council makes much difference. The City Council is deaf.

Well said, Karen. Those who seek to limit those whom they believe to be speaking as a result of a concerted effort are doing so out of distaste for the position which serves as the catalyst for said organization. The folks who live near the proposed fracking sites have every right to organize as their daily lives will be directly affected by the drilling activities. Similarly, the good residents of the Mill Village neighborhood were justified in speaking out, en masse, against the proposed Mill Village Apartments development.

Like it it not, there are collective, citizen-based interest groups in this country who should be able to enjoy the right to express their opinions within the existing constraints of the arena in which they choose to exercise that right.

I found the source for the shocking Coulter quote, but as near as I can tell, the Hitler anti-union quote is not real, even given that he did savage the unions and jail the leaders the very next day. "We must close union offices, confiscate their money and put their leaders in prison. We must reduce workers salaries and take away their right to strike." - Adolf Hitler, May 2, 1933 " <- If you can find proper attribution, please publish it.

This is the tip of a very toxic iceberg--Colorado's own congressman for Colorado Springs area has decided he will not attend the President's State of the Union tonight because "he doesn't agree with nor care to hear what the President has to say"

Abandoning any pretense that they’re focused on job creation, Colorado Republicans have clarified their priorities for the new legislative session: guns rights. Specifically, they are doing their best to ensure that citizens have the unfettered ability to carry guns anywhere — including into elementary, middle, and high schools:
