Gotta love these guys!

Greenpeace can always be counted on to go out on a limb (or in this case an oil rig) to challenge unacceptable environmental practices. Whether or not they achieve a particular goal, they pull back the curtain and expose what others don’t want exposed.

Greenpeace is a 40-year old action-based, independent, global environmental organization. According to their website, they “take action to protect our oceans and forests, eliminate the use of harmful chemicals and transition to a world powered by clean and unlimited energy sources like the wind and sun.”

The Associated Press reports that three Greenpeace activists on Sunday climbed up an oil rig off Greenland’s coast in an attempt to stop a Scottish oil company from starting deepwater drilling in the arctic waters.

The activists scaled the 53,000-ton rig Leiv Eiriksson and are now hanging in a pod from the underside of the rig.

Greenpeace has criticized Cairn Energy, who operates the rig, for not taking the extra precautions needed to avoid accidents such as the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.”
